Part 1
My Current Jobs
Eyes!
I've been working on-and-off with some people here in town on awesome anatomically correct liquid-filled silicone eyes (The image above is not one of the silicone eyes, I'm pretty sure I'm not allowed to post photos of them or of the processes involved to make them). The eyes are mainly meant to be used to test ophthalmology equipment, and we are waiting to see if a few companies are interested. We also have made a few giant display eyes as well.
Here's a link to the site with images and more info:
I'm also beginning to work as an assistant to the anaplastologist/ special effects artist who created the aforementioned silicone eyes. I'm excited to be gaining so much experience, and I'm really looking forward to the future projects that we will be working on. I'll be posting more about those projects in the next few months!
Monsters vs. Robots!
(This was sculpted by the amazing Simon Lee, not me)
First of all, let me just say that Pacific Rim is a crazy fun movie, especially in 3D. In fact, it is quite possibly the best use of 3D since Avatar in my opinion. I also noticed that everything was actually brighter in the 3D version, and that never happens! Apparently a lot of people were disappointed with the story and characters, which I understand, but I still really liked it. Especially those robot and monster designs! After watching it for the first time, I immediately ordered the concept art book when I got home.
Now let me change the subject to how I've started teaching sculpture classes at the art college this summer to kids in the art camp and saturday school programs. The kids ended up making some really, really awesome stuff. Like this.
Oh, and the helmet comes off.
Did I mention this was made by a kid in the K-2 group?
They also made big paper mache animal sculptures, giant cardboard masks, and lots and lots of spaceships and dinosaurs. So when I was asked if there was a certain theme I wanted to use for a saturday school sculpture class, I knew it had to be Pacific Rim inspired!
So basically, at the moment, I make a living by building eyeballs and teaching kids to make monsters and robots. Yay!
Part 2 (My Art) will be on here later this week, after I finish getting photos of the new stuff together.
Later!
